Get ready for the biggest celebration in Senegal...
TABASKIE '09.
Tomorrow morning there will (unfortunately) be something like 600,000 slaughtered sheep in Senegal, and consequently, lots of eating and celebrating all day.
The weirdest aspect of all of this has been witnessing sheep ON TOP of cars rapides. For people leaving Dakar to go into the villages for the holiday, they buy their sheep in Dakar and bring it along on the bus ride home to the village. Yesterday, on the highway, we kept witnessing sheep swaddled in empty rice bags, sheep under cargo nets, sheep tied to the roofracks of the cars rapides, etc etc. It is the weirdest sight to see a bunch of live animals riding on top of a vehicle.
(Still haven't witnessed how the animals get up and down from there, but I imagine that it is quite hilarious.)
